Cats and mankind have been living in harmony for many years but that has not always been the case. There have been times when cats have been nearly wiped out in the name of God. And what happened the Black Death reigned supreme for a lot longer than it should. So we will go back to the beginnings of recorded history to the time of the pharaohs of Egypt. Here cats were revered as Gods and many were mummified to last for eternity. Because the cats guarded the grain warehouses and killed the rats and mice that fed on the grain. Therefore reducing famines, that were the curse of Egypt. It was illegal to kill cats in those days, like cows in India today.

Then the nine lives of the humble cat who only wanted to help mankind by killing rodents that carried disease took a serious turn for the worse during the middle ages. Where witch hunts and burning at the stake were the norm. Someone who didn't like cats somehow connected them to witches and they were burnt at the stake with there owners. How they made that connection I'll never know. It started off with Pope Gregory IX in the 1232 who deemed the common house cat as diabolical. Then to make matters worse in1484 along came the greatest cat killer of all time, Pope Innocent VIII, who decreed something along the lines of all cats came from hell and should returned to the fires of hell by fire. Cats were mercilessly prosecuted and were burnt, so they would return to the fires of hell. It is amazing any survived because if you were caught with a cat you were burnt together. I still go to church and sometimes I just wonder why. And of course the Black Death was in the background surviving and thriving, because there were no cats to kill the rats that carried the fleas that caused the disease. Then along came the cat's savior King Louis XIII of France, who in the 1630s repealed the law and cats once again started to live. But they were still hated and killed for many centuries after that. I don't know if the Black Death subsided but cats once again protected mankind against the diseases carried by rodents. And the famines brought on by mice plagues.

Cats actually carry a few parasites, a few fleas and some diseases and a few can turn serious but not many. If cats were causing too much sickness they would not have invaded our lives as well as they have. But there are still people out there who do not like cats. When I first went to China about 20 years ago there were very few cats living with people and very few wild cats. I was amazed because I've had cats all my life and I never thought people didn't like cats. But then in China the people said cats carried disease and that was it. I think that might have something to do with that cat sick you get in your eye. Not serious just a slight problem for a week And if you were pregnant you had to keep away from cats. I think they were referring to toxoplasmosis, but if you get that when you are a kid it should not affect your baby. They also said cats were dirty but I don't think so. I think cats are one of the cleanest pets you can have. I think that came from the cats killing the rats and mice. Because rats are very dirty animals then because the cats killed and ate them they will also be dirty. A dirty by connection type of thing. Also there were some big sewer rats running round during the day. Once I saw a rat and a cat face off each other and the cat wasn't much bigger than the rat. They were about a foot apart staring each other out and the cat ran away. I'm not surprised the rat's teeth were bigger that the cats.

I think one of the reasons there were not many cats around is because they used to eat them. And every now and then the restaurant cat catches would pick up an cat they could find and take them back to the restaurant. I remember seeing cats in glass displays out the front of the restaurants. But somewhere between then and now they banned eating cats. So cats are now not on the menu and now there are cats everywhere. Most of them started off in someone's house and got thrown away, as most are very friendly. Also they have this thing about stomach worms. And in those days China was not as modern as now so stomach worms would have been a problem. Fleas are not really a problem because they have tile floors and wooden furniture.

If this attitude towards cats goes back generations then one can understand why historians say the Black Death started in China. Where there are rats and no cats then the rats dominate and that would have been a precursor for the disease to get close to people. Now when I go back to China there are still rats running around but not so many in the housing estates. There are many down by the river. Also they have a very efficient rubbish clean up system that keeps the cities very clean. Where I stay the rubbish is collected everyday. That would also keep the rat population down. And with so many discarded cats running around the rats don't have much of a chance. I've never seen this but I suspect the government picks up a lot of cats. There used to be colonies of stray cats living in some places but now I don't see them any more.

Now cats have once more retained the spot on the sofa and any mouse or rat that comes inside better beware. Well I hope so except our cat was rubbing noses with a rat once. I thought he was going to get his nose bitten but he didn't. I think just the smell of the cat keeps most rodent away. There are diseases out there that are carried by rodents and some are very deadly like the hantavirus and the plague or black death. If any of these deadly diseases turn the cat into a host then it will be goodbye cats and possibly goodbye us. But until that happens we should keep on loving our cats. And if there is ever a population explosion of the rodents who carry the hantavirus then humble cat might be our last hope. There is no vaccine and no cure for the hantavirus.

Population problems arise Welcome To The Future
The best online church I could find

The population on the planet is over 7 billion yet the food supply is not really increasing to account for the additional mouths. I think in the January 2011 edition of National Geographic there was a graph of the population increases over the past 30 years or so. And it seems these countries with high populations are the countries where the riots have taken place. Even the London riots could be have been caused by population pressure. Egypt has had over 100% population growth since they built the Aswan Dam. And in a documentary about the Nile they were talking about using water from the Nile to farm the desert. The word 'population' was never mentioned. Egypt is a social disaster waiting to happen and it doesn't matter how many elections they have. It is written on the tombs of the leaders when the Nile doesn't flood there is famine and they say 'history repeats itself'. I would say any country with unrelenting population growth is in for a bit of a shock and a lot of riots. The last 30 odd years of economic growth has resulted in a leap in the population in many countries. China on the other side hand with its demonic 'One Child policy' is way ahead of the curve. Now China is heading for superpower status and they are feeding themselves. Most of the vegetables and pork come into the city daily form the outlying farms. Non of this half way round the world sort of stuff. But the price of rice and wheat is controlled by the world price except China doesn't always worry about that. Also China doesn't have the mass of under 30-year-olds and that is where the problems start. Japan is similar except their population is controlled by economics. They have been an economic basket case for the past 20 years, and that is not going to change any time soon. So when you can't afford to have kids you stop having them. I think the greatest failure is nobody knows. The governments of some of the overcrowded countries should actually say, "Every child born this millennium is going to have a terrible life. They will see the end of cheap oil, the end of readily available safe drinking, and the end of plentiful food along with the end of lots of other things. So stop having kids." But who is going to say that.

Welcome To The Future Peak Oil Myth
Population problems arise

If you have young children you could quite possible be worried about global warming and what type of future there will be for your children. This global warming thing is very serious. It is one of the most serious things that is affecting the planet but not in ways you would imagine.
It doesn't really matter if global warming is caused by mankind burning fossil fuels or the sun or whatever, depending on whatever camp you belong to. At present it is the dominant concern about the future of humanity. But there are a number of more serious concerns that will affect your children and you in the not too distant future and global warming is not one of them. Yet it gets the lion's share of all the scientific funding, most of the media attention, nearly all politicians agree with it and most activists are marching against it.
I've seen documentaries that basically state the world's average mean temperature will be 5 degrees Celsius hotter in the year 2030. And I'm left wondering if some semblance of civilization will still exist in the year 2030. I think a large number of multinational companies are behind global warming as it gives the media and the activists something else to pursue.
Global Warming is a smokescreen and most things we should be concerned about are hidden behind it. And we are going to get a big shock in the not to distant future, like 2012, when we realize we have been chasing the wrong concern and Peak Oil raises its ugly head again.

I Was Looking For Electric Cars At The China Fair Peak Oil Myth
Welcome To The Future

This time last year I started looking for electric cars and I only found 2 and they both belonged to the one company. This year there were 3 companies selling on the road cars and 1 selling golf cars. Technology hasn't quite caught up with the car industry they are still trying to pump out everything as cheap as possible so all cars had lead acid batteries with a range of about 130kms per charge. Some were very impressive looking, top speed of about 60kms.

Here because of the traffic jams 60kms/hour is fast. The cheapest factory price was $3500 and the top was around $8500 for a 4 seater. But I didn't see any on the road. I saw 1 Smart car in Hong Kong and 1 hybrid here and that was it.

Here they have a thing about cars, they are a status symbol so everybody wants a good one. They have a small car called a QQ at 1100cc and no one seemed to want one. I did see a few on the road and they looked okay.

They do not seem to have a sustainable future. On the city freeway cars under 1000cc are not allowed so most people don't like to buy a small car.

It is utterly amazing here the shopping is an experience and the shopping streets are just a sea of people. I have never seen so many people in one shop. Even in the supermarkets you have to wait for about 6 people in front of you, but they don't buy shopping carts full of goodies just enough to carry home on the bus. Even though the city is one big traffic jam not many own cars.

There Seems To Be Some Debate As To Whether There Will Be Life After Peak Oil Peak Oil Myth
Welcome To The Future

It is hard to say. If we follow the Cuba model there will be a good life similar to what we have now but we will be using a lot less energy. That would be the ideal model to follow. But looking at history when societies have run out of their energy source they have degraded into war and nearly totally destroyed themselves. Easter island, Anastazi and the Maya all collapsed. What will the archeologists of tomorrow say about our society.

I would like to think that our society would contract back to something like the 1950's in my lifetime. Before the car culture where we road bicycles to school and walked a lot more. Factory farming and globalization will be dead and like Cuba, farming and growing food will be very important. We will have a return to family farming and commune living in small eco-villages.

I hope the internet will survive but I don't think so. It came into existence as part of the oil economy and when oil goes so will the internet. If we follow the Cuba model there will be more emphasis on schooling and health, with everything decentralized to the local level. Everything will be closer either within walking distance or biking distance. And hopefully our society will survive.

Cities will slowly contract with people moving into the countryside. Large cities are not sustainable without oil so they will contract. I hope our society will survive but it is debatable. Mankind loves war and if the oil wars take over the future we could be doomed with the leftovers of western society living in caves

It Is Time To Lay Off Having Too Many Kids Peak Oil Myth
Welcome To The Future

I still think every child born this millennium is in for a rough ride. They will see the end of oil, the end of plentiful food and safe water to drink, plus the end of the modern medical system and possible the end of electricity. But we can look on the bright side, they will also see the end of obesity. What I don't understand is why very few people have made the connection between population and food supply. It is quite obvious really if we stopped having kids there would be a lot less mouths to feed. The riots in Egypt started over food and they could start here in the near future.
God said on the first page of the Bible "Be fruitful and multiply" but if you read on further there are other references to not overdoing the multiplying.
In the Genesis 3 verse 16 (King James Version) it is written "unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children" God is not really making out that getting pregnant and having babies is a happy thing to do.
Also further on in the Gospels of the New Testament in Matthew 24 verse 19 and others Jesus says "And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days." Admittedly here the Lord Jesus is talking about the end of times. And now I think we are nearing the end of times, so it might be time to lay off having too many kids.

The Latest Japan Earthquake And Tsunami Could Be Japan's Saviour Peak Oil Myth
Welcome To The Future

Japan has been in the economic crap for the past 20 odd years with no future in sight until the earthquake and following tsunami flattened the place and took out a few nuclear power stations. Well this area has to be rebuilt after they finished counting the people who didn't make it. I still think the death toll will be in the 100s of thousands not the 10s of thousands they are talking now.

And who better to rebuild it than arch enemy China. If China and Japan can somehow overcome their sordid historical past and start planning their future together, Asia will benefit. Hong Kong will go down to the bottom of the pile. I think Hong Kong is a classic case of not adapting to the future. Before they made things happen, now they are watching things happen and in a few years time they will wonder what happened.

If China and Japan can set up currency swaps to sort out the mess from the earthquake then that is a start to China floating its Renminbi. And once China floats its currency that will be the end for Hong Kong. Hong Kong will be as Marc Faber from the Doom and Gloom report said on the Monday Face in the Hong Kong Morning Post before the handover. In 10 years time Hong Kong will be a city of no significant importance or something like that. Even though we have gone past that time frame Hong Kong is heading that way.

The future is China and if China and Japan can work out their differences using rebuilding Japan after the tsunami as a way to go forward then the 21th century will truly be the Century of Asia.

Actually rebuilding the areas that have been wiped out will stimulate economic growth and that might just drag Japan out of its recession death spiral. Japan has been on the hit list of countries ready to collapse for a number of years now and this might just turn things around.

Actually at the Beginning of 2011 There is Nothing in the Main Media About the Latest Peak Oil News. Peak Oil Myth
Welcome To The Future

Peak oil seems to be the best kept secret on the planet and yet the consequences will affect us all. Even when oil went over $80 a barrel there was nothing about peak oil in the news. It did keep the peak oil debunkers quiet and lately the peak oil myth hasn't raised its head. But then again neither has the peak oil camp made the headlines. There is nothing, zippo about the latest news about peak oil.

But in the background there is a bit of activity going on to try and slow down the peak oil peak. I'm following keenly any news about the progress of the plug in hybrid conversion kit. If they can put a reasonable priced plug in hybrid conversion kit that can be adapted to any car, we might have some oil left to transform our society to a oil-less one.

The way we are going, we are going to run out of oil before we can transform civilization from oil to something else. But what the something else will be I have no idea. Peak oil latest news seems to come and go in waves and lately like all of this year we have been stuck in a trough with very little news in the media.

There could be a trend starting amongst popular peak oil people to not use the words "peak oil" in their articles. In the latest article by James Howard Kunstler America's New Religion James never wrote the words "peak oil" in the article. I have found a lot of people just switch off when they hear the words "peak oil" anyway my family does. There is the latest peak oil news on the peak oil sites but there is nothing new in the mainstream media.

The Peak Oil Scams are Running Thick and Fast Peak Oil Myth
Welcome To The Future

For every argument the pendulum swings from one extreme to the other so for peak oil we have a peak oil scam

I believe Peak Oil is coming so I tend away from the peak oil scams but I used to look at them to try and find some truth in there. I couldn't. The peak oil scams are built up around people not wanting to change. They look for reasons so they can carry on with the business as usual model. And some of their arguments are quite convincing but they don't take into account the big picture.

If you look at the big picture you can see the whole world is scrambling for the last remaining drop of oil. BP has changed its name from British Petroleum to Beyond Petroleum. For a major player to do that they must know something we don't. And that something is the world's most not talked about secret, Peak Oil. The impact of peak oil on the world and the following collapse of society is something nobody wants to happen. So they create peak oil scams to cover up the future therefore everything remains the same.

But the future is not going to be the same. We are poised on the edge of the cliff and we are doing nothing about it. Nobody wants to change. What we should be doing and what we are doing are totally different. We should be using the last of the oil to build a livable society without oil but all we are doing is coming up with peak oil scams to ridicule the future thinkers into conformity. We are not exactly building a sustainable future for our children. Your sons and daughters could be killed in oil wars because peak oil scams covered up the truth.
